“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” (Ryunosuke Satoro)
Today, volunteer organizations, based on universal values, act in many critical areas for the future of the world: education, fighting against poverty, environmental protection, promoting human rights, conflict management and peacebuilding, etc.. However, they sometimes face difficulties in adapting to rapid and complex changes that characterize today’s world. They can give up to pressures and follow the dominant trends rather than developing new approaches by re-offering their original values without abandoning their principles. Many of these organizations share at varying levels the same problems of legitimacy, accountability, internal democracy, representation and transparency.
In a world increasingly interconnected and interdependent organizations based on universal values need to rethink their governance structures and decision-making process if they are to remain relevant and play their role in building a better future.
Indaba-Network ambition to encourage research in this area and sharing best practices to develop new organizational models.
